A significant part of our training since we created our course has
been the crafting and presenting of a eulogy. During the training, I
will be sharing the story of a young man named Jonathon. You will be
asked to write down the details as you hear them and then "present"
your eulogy on Sunday morning. Everyone in the course will be given an opportunity to give feedback.
We will also pass on our comments and suggestions for improvement. This is
such an important exercise that we are asking each of you to make it
a priority. Presentation of a eulogy is a requirement of
certification.
The
presentation should not be more than 5 minutes in length and should
include opening and closing words. You are also free to include a
poem or song lyrics if it supports your eulogy. If you are not
certain about opening words use, “On behalf of Jonathon’s family
thank you for being here today to share in this celebration of his
life”.
This exercise “tests” your listening skills as well
as your ability to “craft” a eulogy that honestly reflects
Jonathon’s life. Here are some tips to keep in mind as you listen
and take notes:
• Is there a theme to the things shared?
• Do not embellish the
story, if the “family” did not say it, do not add it.
• Remember
that you are crafting and telling the story of Jonathon’s life not
reading an obituary.
Thanks,
Wayne & Rosanne
